    1940s Harry Gilmer Dubow Leather Football Helmet w/ Wooden Hat Block
    The nation’s leading passer and MVP of the 1946 Rose Bowl, Alabama quarterback Harry Gilmer was a natural spokesperson for gridiron equipment. This late-1940s leather football helmet is a scarce survivor and reminder of the game’s archaic past. Crafted by the Chicago-based Dubow plant, the black and white leather head gear features a leather interior and a six-point crown suspension. Gilmer’s facsimile signature is displayed on the front and would have to suffice in taking the impact as there were no protective face masks in those days! The relic exhibits evidence of phenomenal use at some level, with scuffing and cracking throughout.
