Description
Offered here is a holy grail item for fans of South Carolina football or the Citadel Bulldogs. This original and authentic football jersey was worn by #95. The jersey came from the estate of Henry Lide DuRant, Citadel Class of 1957. He was a graduate as well of Manning High School in South Carolina. The jersey MAY have been worn by DuRant; I cannot guarantee that because records of his playing history are hard to find. Based on other jerseys of this period that I've seen, I will posit the theory that this might be a freshman team jersey, not a varsity jersey. The jersey is a white Champion size 44 with blue Northwestern-style stripes on the sleeves. This style is typical of what Citadel wore in the 1950s. The jersey is made of heavy cotton with reinforced elbows and shoulders. There is a team repair in the tail on the back (see photo). The jersey displays no tears or holes but does have good evidence of use as shown in the photos. Please note: the Cadet photo is not part of the auction and is included for indication of provenance.
