Vintage Football Player Shoulder Pads 30's-40's?

Vintage Football Player Shoulder Pads.  My husband is pretty sure these were his fathers so that would date them to at least the 1940's but they could be older.
They are in decent condition.  I can't find any manufacturer markings anywhere.  They're is one small pad that goes in between the the two larger sections that the leather strap is broken on.  You can see it in the pictures.    I don't know much about football equipment so please do not hesitate to ask questions or ask for more pictures.  They do measure approximately 22" long, 10 inches wide and 8 inches tall.
