    Description

    RMS Queen Elizabeth
    was built by
    John Brown and Company
    at
    Clydebank
    ,
    Scotland
    for Cunard White Star Line.
Launched September 27, 1938, she entered service as a troopship during World War II. In 1946,
Queen Elizabeth entered  passenger service, allowing Cunard White Star to launch the long-planned transatlantic two-ship weekly service between Southampton and New York along with Queen Mary. Retired in 1969, she was sold at auction in 1970 to
    Tung Chao Yung,
    head of the
    Orient Overseas Line and
renamed Seawise University. She was to
    be used as
    a university for the
    World Campus Afloat
program. Seawise University caught fire on January 9,1972 and was sunk in Hong Kong's Victoria Harbor.
