    SS Kaiser Wilhem II
    was built by Vulcan AG Shipyard in Stettin, Germany. Launched
    August 12, 1902
    ,
    she made her maiden voyage April 14, 1903.
    Designed for high speed
    trans-Atlantic
    service
    she won the
    Blue Riband
    for the fastest eastbound crossing in 1904 and made regular trips between Germany and New York City
    before the outbreak of World War I. On April 6,1917 she was seized by the U.S. Government when it declared war on Germany and was used as a transport ship in the Atlantic. Her name was changed to USS Agamemnon at the beginning of September 1917.
